Neil Flynn was born on the south side of Chicago and later moved to Waukegan, Illinois, where he grew up. During his time at Waukegan East High School, he and his partner won the Illinois Individual Events state championship for "Humorous Duet Acting" in 1978. He continued his education at Bradley University, where he was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity and participated in the nationally renowned Bradley University Speech Team. After graduating in 1982, Flynn returned to Chicago to pursue a career in acting .

Career Beginnings

Flynn began his professional career in Chicago, performing with the Goodman and Steppenwolf theaters. He was nominated for a Joseph Jefferson Award for his performance in "The Ballad of the Sad Cafe" at the Absolute Theatre Company. Additionally, he became involved in the city's improv scene, performing at ImprovOlympic and the Second City Comedy Troupe. In 1998, he co-founded the improv group Beer Shark Mice with fellow comedians David Koechner and Pat Finn .
